Some four percent of the world’s population live and work outside their home countries. For many of them, sending money back home is a major priority—but despite the demand, remittances remain a complicated and expensive proposition. A global consortium led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the United Nations is working on a series of projects to make remittances more affordable and to reimagine them as the gateway product for a broader suite of personal finance products for migrants. I designed and produced this short explainer video to make what could be a dry technical subject accessible and compelling for non-specialist audiences.
