Each year an artist is invited to create a sculpture of the proverbial “Junebug” in the spirit of the ArtFest, which is unveiled at the opening and presides as a focal point of the event throughout. The Junebug ArtFest Committee thanks John for sharing his creative skill providing such a unique element for the event.

The 2010 Junebug sculpture is the work of well-known local artist, John Shersick. John’s tree-trunk carvings are familiar throughout Middlesex County. He has been working in wood this way for about ten years, though he identifies himself as a sculptor “forever”. Among his creations are the Thomas Jefferson figure in the auditorium of Thomas Jefferson Middle School, Edison; a large eagle for the Boy Scouts; a massive 10’ Native American for Keyport High School, one of his largest; and the Metuchen High School bulldog which greets visitors to the football field.
